Check Your Fridge for These Recalled Mac & Cheese Products ASAP

The FDA announced another food recall this week. This one concerns a batch of mac and cheese that was likely caught before the products reached consumers. However, you’ll want to check your fridge just in case one slipped by and made it to store shelves.

These recalled mac and cheese products could have bacteria contamination

Two types of Reser’s macaroni and cheese products were recalled due to potential temperature issues on the refrigerated trailer they were transported on. The recall started on July 29 and was classified by the FDA as a Class II recall on September 3.

According to the FDA website, a Class II recall is “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

The main concern here is that the temperature fluctuations allowed bacteria to grow on the macaroni and cheese.

The affected products were:

  • Reser’s American Classics Macaroni & Cheese with “use by” dates of September 14 and 16, 2024
  • Reser’s American Classics Macaroni & Cheese White Cheddar with “use by” date of September 11, 2024

The products were destined to be sold in:

  • California
  • Illinois
  • Minnesota
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota

According to Fox Business, a Reser’s Fine Food representative stated that the issue was isolated to one truckload of product delivered to one distributor location. The rep said no affected products made it to stores and that any items purchased by consumers should be safe.

However, despite assurances, it’s better to be safe than sorry. If you’ve purchased any Reser’s Fine Foods macaroni and cheese lately, check the products for the above “use by” dates. If you find they fit the description, it’s probably best to toss them, especially since they’re at or past their recommended consumption date anyway.

Fortunately, this recall is no where near as bad as the Boar’s Head listeria outbreak which has killed 9 and injured dozens others as of writing.
