George Clooney praised U.S. President Joe Biden, calling him “selfless” for dropping out of the 2024 elections. Clooney’s statement regarding the Democratic Party leader and his withdrawal from the Presidential question was in response to a question about his The New York Times op-ed from earlier this year. In his op-ed, the actor had asked Biden to step down from this year’s race.
George Clooney on Joe Biden quitting presidential election
“Wolfs” actor George Clooney praised Joe Biden for quitting the 2024 presidential election while talking to the press recently. When faced with the inevitable question about his The New York Times op-ed, Clooney called Biden “selfless” for dropping out of the race. In addition, he compared the political leader to the first U.S. President George Washington.
According to BBC, during the Venice conference, a reporter asked George Clooney, “What you think was the impact of the op-ed you wrote for The New York Times, umm, asking President Biden to step down which he eventually did?” Clooney, who is one of the leading fundraisers of the Democratic Party, made a shocking statement when responding to this question.
George Clooney replied, “You know, I’ve never had to answer that question. So, I suppose I’ll do it here.” He stated, “The person who should be applauded is the President [Joe Biden], who did the most selfless thing that anybody has done since George Washington.” The 63-year-old then added, “And that’s true. And so, anybody, all the machinations that got us there, none of that’s going to be remembered, and it shouldn’t be.”
Clooney believes something people should remember “is the selfless act of someone who, you know, is very hard to let go of power.” He said, “All the credit goes to him, and that’s really the truth.” The actor further added that “we’re all very excited for the future,” referring to Kamala Harris replacing Joe Biden in the 2024 U.S. Presidential elections.
