Kanye West threw a temper tantrum at the MTV Europe VMAs last night when his “Touch the Sky” failed to win the Best Video trophy. While DJ Justice, of Justice vs. Simian, went on stage to accept the award for “We are Friends,” West stormed the stage where he yelled:
Fuck this! My video cost a million dollars. Pamela Anderson was in it, I was jumping across canyons and shit! If I don’t win, the awards show loses credibility. Nothing against you (Justice Vs Simian), but hell man.”
Clearing up any notion that we might have had that he was only kidding, West continued his tirade during the backstage press conference:
I haven’t seen (the Justice and Simian) video. Possibly it could have been quite good, but no way better than Touch The Sky. That is complete bullshit, I paid a million. Obviously it’s not all about the money, but the response it got transcended everything, it really made great TV. It took a month to film; I stood on a mountain; I flew a helicopter over Vegas. I did it to be the king of all videos and I wanted to walk home with that award. (The reason the other video won) – That was some spread the love bullshit, ‘Oh everyone should have an award.’ Please press people print, ‘Kanye says fuck that!'”
It’s MTV Europe. It’s not even real MTV, dude. This is like a someone throwing a hissy fit because he didn’t get a part on Law & Order: Mall Security. Apparently this is cool to do if you’re a rapper, because nothing says “I’m a hardcore rapper” like sucking your thumb and stamping your feet because nobody cares how much you think of yourself.
Here’s Justin Timberlake. He was in a boy band and he managed to win more than one award. Way to step up there, Kanye.
