Emo-rapper Lil Peep Dies of Apparent Drug Overdose

The music world lost of one its most promising new voices with the tragic death of Lil Peep. The breakout New York rapper was pronounced dead on his tour bus last night before a scheduled performance at the Rock in Tucson, Arizona. He was 21.

Lil Peep was born Gustav Ahr on Nov. 1, 1996, and was raised in Long Beach, on Long Island. After moving to Los Angeles, he first gained internet fame posting mixtapes on YouTube and eventually on the streaming platform SoundCloud, where fans sparked instantly to his slow, hazy future forward-synthesizer sounds over raw emo lyrics about depression and drug use.

Lil Peep was currently on tour in support of his highly-acclaimed debut album, “Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1.” Many of those songs were recorded in his bedroom when he was living on Los Angeles’s Skid Row and battling drug abuse.

Sadly, fans whom hailed him as a voice for those struggling with depression and addiction, last image of Lil Peep, will be his final Instagram post, which he boasts of taking Xanax saying: “I’m good, I’m not sick”.
