Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has sold more in the UK in its opening week than Horizon Zero Dawn, making it the biggest single-format launch of the year so far.
The remastered collection, based upon the original Naughty Dog series and developed by Vicarious Visions, has had a hugely successful opening week in the UK, becoming the first ever Crash Bandicoot game to debut at number one in the sales chart. Charting ahead of fellow new release Micro Machines: World Series, the trilogy took the top spot in a relatively quiet week for new games, with the Elite: Dangerous PS4 port charting at number 7.
Early signs of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy‘s success in the UK could be found on Amazon, with the game topping 2017’s bestselling video games chart in just two days, ahead of Horizon Zero Dawn, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game is currently 48th in Amazon US‘s Top 100 sales chart, highlighting the gulf of interest between regions.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy features remastered versions of the three original Crash Bandicoot games, with it being exclusive to the PS4. Fans have been clamouring for a new Crash game for years now, with Sony debuting the title at last year’s E3 to much excitement. According to GfK, the success of the trilogy now makes Crash Bandicoot the 24th best-selling game franchise at boxed retail.
Though it’s unlikely we’ll ever see the series’ creators Naughty Dog take the helm of a brand new Crash game, what with them predominantly focused upon bigger franchises such as the Uncharted series and The Last of Us, Vicarious Visions could well be in line to lead new entries in the series given the success of this remaster.
