After securing No. 1 pick Auston Matthews in last summer’s NHL draft, it looks like the Toronto Maple Leafs may be closer to their first Stanley Cup in 50 years than initially thought.
That’s because that No. 1 overall pick became the first ever to score four goals in his first game.
Matthews, who is on-pace to become the greatest American hockey player ever, scored a hat trick within the first 22 minutes of Wednesday night’s game against Ottawa. He ended the game with four goals.
Ridiculous. He’s 19, folks.
Possibly even better? Mom’s reaction.
What’s terrible is that the Leafs still lost, 4-5.
But Auston, hot damn. I’ll be watching the next Maple Leafs game. And I never thought I would write that sentence in my life.
