Watch Of The Week | Uniform Wares Chronograph M42

Genuinely good chronographs within the mid market price range are hard to source. Most of the worthy timepieces reside in the upper echelons of cost. But Uniform Wares has unveiled a truly worthy timepiece that retails from $1100 to $1250, depending on the model. The Uniform Wares Chronographe M42 is simple and understated, forgoing bling and unnecessary distraction for barebones functionality. And the result is perfection.

With a 42mm diameter in tow, Uniform Wares’ simple little chronograph boasts a small band to offset the large dial. Very much a Swiss affair, here, the M42 comes in a polished steel case and bezel. A scratch resistant sapphire crystal shelters a dial with minute, second, and hour hand plus 3 stylish mini dials inset.

Other incarnations of the timepiece include a version with a steel bracelet and rose gold case. And here are the brass tacks. Your date sits at the 4 o’clock position. And the movement is a Swiss made quartz ETA 251.471 featuring 23 jewels. Water resistance is up to 5ATM.

As for clever options, the Chronographe M42 comes in your choice of rubber strap or adjustable steel link bracelet. But to hear the fine folks at Uniform Wares tell it, it’s “chronograph functionality pared back to its essentials.” This is multipurpose accessorizing: work, play, glam or laid back. And at under 800€, it’s a great investment.
