SGDQ 2016: Disabled Speedrunner Receives Standing Ovation After Tear-Jerking Speech

Disabled speedrunner Clint “Halfcoordinated” Lexa received a standing ovation at SGDQ 2016 after making a tear-jerking speech after a play session to raise donations for charity organization Doctors Without Borders.

Clint has Hemiparesis, a physical disability that causes weakness on the right side of his body, given him limited movement with his right hand. Going by the name of Halfcoordinated, Clint is well-known in the speedrunning community for being able to tear through games despite his natural disadvantage. He appeared at SGDQ last year, with his incredible playthrough of Vanquish going viral as a result.

At SGDQ 2016, a one-handed speedrun from Clint is interrupted by a donation from user “Dad233,” who donates $100 to Clint’s cause along with the message: “Even if I wasn’t your dad, you’d still be a hero to me.” After a brief pause, Clint replies: “Oh, that is actually my dad…” adding: “I’m trying not to cry right now.”

As Clint’s speedrun concluded, he left those in attendance and the viewers at home with a parting message about how people should “take what life has given you, and do your best with it,” before being met with a standing ovation.
