Kairi Sane Scheduled For 7/3 RAW Tapings, Original Plans To Write Her Off Of WWE TV

Kairi Sane is scheduled to make her return to WWE TV but it may be shortlived as she’s returning to Japan to be with her husband.

Sane was legitimately injured by Nia Jax at the May 26 RAW tapings when she was thrown into the ring steps and hasn’t been mentioned on WWE TV since then. According to Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer NewsletterSane’s leave of absence has been planned for some time and WWE has known about it since at least May.  It was noted that she has been cleared since then and is listed for today’s taping schedule, which would air on either July 6 or July 13.

Sane’s name hasn’t been mentioned much on television because WWE didn’t want to play up a real-life injury, and Meltzer notes that the original idea for her departure was to run a career-ending injury angle. It was noted that Jax was not supposed to be the person who (storyline) injured Kairi, but the plan was to have Asuka face off with that person at SummerSlam for the RAW Women’s Championship. It was speculated that this likely changed since Paul Heyman’s departure, and two unconfirmed names mentioned as the potential attacker were Charlotte Flair or Shayna Baszler, both currently off of TV.

It’s also worth noting that Charlotte Flair is also off of WWE TV right now with a storyline injured sustained after an attack by Nia Jax. Flair was actually written off of television to have an elective surgery, which PWInsider.com later reported would only keep her out for an “expected” six weeks. Baszler, on the other hand, has been off of television since May 18 due to simply not booking her for any storylines.
