Nick Offerman’s Tales of Whisky

Scotland is the home country of Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor, the setting for Train Spotting and the only place in the world where Scotch (obviously) can be produced. The official animal of Scotland is the Unicorn (seriously) and if they had an official American, it would be Nick Offerman. The star of NBC’s Parks and Recreation might be the biggest fan of Scottish Whisky this side of the Atlantic. That’s why he recently team up with Scotch brands Oban and Lagavulin to release the web series My Tales of Whisky.

Offerman is truly a comedic renaissance man. On top of his acclaimed portrayal of Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation and roles in The Lego Movie, The Kings of Summer, We’re The Millers and his book Paddle Your Own Canoe: One Man’s Fundamentals for Delicious Living, he also runs Offerman Woodshop in Los Angeles. He’s not afraid to work up a thirst for whisky by working with his hands as he and his woodworkers craft canoes, furniture and even ukuleles.

The series was produced in collaboration with Diageo, owners of some of the most renowned Scottish whisky brands including Oban, Johnnie Walker, and Lagavulin. They also own Crown Royal, JεB, Buchanan’s, Windsor and Bushmills whiskies, Smirnoff, Cîroc and Ketel One vodkas, Captain Morgan, Baileys, Don Julio, Tanqueray and Guinness.

The choice to collaborate with the humorist, actor, writer, woodworker and gentleman of leisure was a no-brainer. The company wanted to find a way to both advertise their brands as well as make consumers laugh. Attaching Offerman, the mustachioed lover of fine whisky and his trusty guitar was the only suitable course of action.

The video series, My Tales of Whisky, consists of videos of Offerman singing and musing about one of his favorite things in the universe: scotch. The videos went live on youtube on December 5th and can be seen here: YouTube

The topics of each video varies from a transcontinental quest in an attempt to discover Offerman’s favorite dram to a mockumentary on how, exactly, Oban is made. Regardless of the topic, however, Offerman is his deadpan and witty self.

While immersing themselves with My Tales of Whisky, viewers can expect to witness a handful of interesting ideas and premises surrounding Scotland’s most famous export.

  1. Why it’s impossible to drink scotch and play guitar at the same time. (Hint: It’s pretty hard to strum an instrument while you are holding a dram in your hand. Mostly because it’s hard to concentrate when you have that much deliciousness at your fingertips)
  2. Offerman enjoys quoting famous poets while creating beautiful poetry of his own.
  3. You will learn a clever rhyme to guarantee that you participate in drinking moderation.
  4. Why it’s not intelligent to ride a horse (named flowers) and drink scotch at the same time. (Hint: It might not end up in the place where you hope it will)
  5. Nick Offerman likes whisky (specifically Oban and Lagavulin) more than pretty much everything in the whole world (Except perhaps his wife Megan Mullally).
